The inline viewer is Iris’s full‑size photo and video viewer. It opens inside the current window and stays in sync with the sidebar and inspector.
Opening the viewer
- Double‑click a thumbnail in Grid or List view.
- Press Space while a thumbnail is selected.
- Choose Item → Open Viewer.
Navigating
←and→move to the previous and next items in the current selection.- Press Space plays / pauses video.
- Press Escape or click Done to return to the grid or list.
⌘⌥Space(Item → Start Playback) starts video playback from the current position.
The arrow keys respect your current sort order. If you’re sorted by date captured, → moves to the next chronological item; if you’re sorted by face count, it moves to the item with the next highest face count.
Quick Look
For a true OS‑level preview (e.g., to use macOS’s built‑in markup or to see all file extension details), choose Item → Quick Look (⌘Y). This opens the standard macOS Quick Look panel, which is independent of Iris’s own viewer.
Sharing from the viewer
Click the standard macOS share button (or choose Item → Share…) to send the photo or video to any share extension — Mail, Messages, AirDrop, Files, or any third‑party share extension you have installed.
Copy text from image
If Iris has detected text in the photo (via OCR), you can copy it directly:
- Choose Edit → Copy Text From Image (
⌘⇧C).
The recognized text goes to the clipboard. This works whether or not the viewer is open — anywhere a single image is selected.
